How to apply for TAN Registration?

There are two modes through which the TAN can be obtained: Online and Offline. The following procedure is about the steps to apply online.

Visit the official website: www.tin-nsdl.com/index.html
Hover or click on 'Services' dropdown and click on 'Apply Online' under the 'TAN' section.
When you press on the 'New TAN' option, you would be confronted with a list that contains the 'category of deductors'.
Upon selecting one, Form 49B would be displayed on the screen.
Fill and submit the form.
You would be getting the acknowledgment page and all you have to do is take a printout of it.
The printout would then need to be sent to NSDL along with the required documents.

The acknowledgment screen shall contain the following:

Applicant's name
Applicant's Status
Contact Details
Payment related details
14-digit acknowledgment number
And space for the signature
